Users with older TomTom devices may see their device become increasingly inaccurate as the company withdraws support on 'lifetime' maps promise. The Dutch firm say sizes of maps has increased by 5GB in eight years and this is a problem for older processorsIn a published on its website, the Dutch navigation firm said: 'Some of our older generation navigation devices do not have sufficient resources to run the newest maps and software available.' The company points to the continued memory demands for accurate mapping as the main reason for the unpopular move.It claims that since 2010, a European map has increased in size by almost 5GB - from 1.6GB to 6.5GB.

Lifetime products sold by by TomTom - including maps - are considered to 'the useful life of the device' by the manufacturer. Users are unlikely to get a refundUsers on Twitter have voiced their anger.John McGowan tweeted: 'lifetime' apps means for as long as you say my #TomTom has a life.' In its statement, TomTom clarified why users will be unlikely to get a refund. It says: 'lifetime means the useful life of the device, i.e. The period of time TomTom supports your device with updates, services, content or accessories. The online backlash from betrayed consumers has seen some vow to never use a TomTom device again. With TomTom announcing that it is pulling support for several features, including maps, the devices will rapidly become out of date as road systems change. Leaving their devices uselessTraditional sat nav devices have become antiquated as they take too long to update with new roads.Waze is updated by users on the move every day, which keeps a constant stream of information being relayed to the app.Finlay Clark, Waze's UK country mnager told MailOnlne: 'Our updates to the map are made in real-time. Where other sat navs may take months to know a new road or bridge has opened.'

As well as increased competition for navigation, experiments into wearable technology have been largely considered a failure.

2007In what seems like an effort to confuse everyone, TomTom has announced the TomTom ONE third edition. Which of course you should not confuse with the ONE XL or the ONE Regional but you should also not confuse it with the original ONE, ONE regional, ONE 2d Edition, ONE 2nd Edition Regional. Okay, I’ve made my point. We’ve already received emails from confused potential customers and I can’t blame them.

But anyway, here we go, the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition. So what is different about it?Possibly the most important distinction to make is that the ONE 3rd Edition will not have Bluetooth. And I think this was a good move on TomTom’s part. While they are making things confusing with the product naming pattern, customers were generally confused about the Bluetooth feature on the ONE 2nd Edition thinking that it could only mean hands-free calling which of course it wasn’t. So eliminating Bluetooth completely and reducing the price is probably a good move. The 3rd Edition of the ONE will also pickup. It is great to see the community expand with more devices. However there are a few items from NavCore 7 that are not included in the third edition ONE since it comes with NavCore 7 “Lite”. You won’t get Itinerary planning (so you only get one via point per route), no custom car icons, and no voice recording among a few other features.

If all you need from those is Itinerary Planning, consider the ONE 2nd Edition, otherwise consider the 720.Under the hood the TomTom ONE v3 will come with a standard 3.5″ display, 1 GB of internal memory, and a connector to attach an optional RDS-TMC traffic receiver. Thankfully, simple traffic option will be available on this entry level device. Identifying the 3rd EditionSo how do you tell apart the second and third editions? Surrounding the screen of the second edition is a black border, with the TomTom name in the lower left corner of the border in silver type. The Third Edition ONE has a silver border with the name TomTom in the lower center in black type.

That is the easiest way to tell them apart. The 3rd Edition is already shipping in Europe, and should be arriving in the USA sometime in September with a MSRP price of $249. I bought one of these a year ago and have had constant problems with it freezing. Up to a few months ago, I was able to reformat the device. Then re-download the software.

It crashed again the other day and Ive now found tomtom dont allow to re-download any more, but charge full price for the up to date map. I had Western Europe but would be happy with UK and ROI but why should I have to pay again??? Aren’t they acting illegally charging again?ThanksDave( Reason I didnt have a backup was because the tomtom caused my whole system to crash and I had to do a complete reinstall of XP, losing the backup of tomtom). This is a follow-up on my inquiry of Feb 7th, 2009.Took my TomTom GPS on Caribbean cruise and it was a lot of fun for me. I had copied maps from online and took them along. By going to “where am I”, at any point on the trip I could get the latitude & longitude, refer to the maps and know exactly where we were. When we were near land the islands were shown on the screen, correct shape but not labeled.

A TV channel in our cabin also gave our lat & long and it checked perfectly.Had to take GPS onto our balcony to pick up the satellites as the steel structues blocked them when inside. Split my time between California and Canada and got a 3rd edition as a Christmas gift, still have free downloads from Tomtom. My advice, don’t get a TomTom if you live in North America. 1) Mapshare technology is useless, I have uploaded several changes and TomTom has never incorporated any of them. 2) Roads near my new home (including a new 6 lane major freeway) are 6 years old, they still don’t show up on the latest TomTom maps – I still have free map downloads as my unit is. The Tom-Tom 3rd edition is the only GPS unit I’ve owned.

There is one small, location-specific problem which I can’t seem to get Tom-Tom to address.I live in a small town (Rocky Ford) in southeastern Colorado. Tom-Tom’s maps display this town as “Vroman, CO”. It will accept corrections to the right town name, but still, at rest in the car in the middle of town, says the surrounding town is “Vroman”.

I did some research. There was a town of Vroman about six miles from here in the 1890s. By WW II it was long gone. The railroad uses the name to refer to some sections of track, and the USGS named its quadrant map for this area the “Vroman Quadrant”. But the town of Rocky Ford has been called Rocky Ford since its founding in 1878.

Since it began in 2000, the church has grown to more than 71,000 active attendees. Robert Morris is the founding lead senior pastor of Gateway Church, a multicampus church based out of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. He serves as chancellor of The King’s University and is the bestselling author of numerous books, including The Blessed Life, Frequency, Beyond Blessed, and Take the Day Off. His television program is aired in over 190 countries, and his radio program, Worship & the Word with Pastor Robert, airs in more than 1,800 radio markets across America. Robert and his wife, Debbie, have been married 39 years and are blessed with one married daughter, two married sons, and nine grandchildren. Gateway worship real free mp3 download.

The USPS does not recognize “Vroman” as a legitimate postal address town name. And still — my Tom-Tom calls the town I live in “Vroman”. This is irritating enough to tempt me to buy a different unit. I’m wondering if buying a unit from a different manufacturer would help. Morgan, what I do when I want to use a second map on the TomTom that the memory can’t handle (and the 3rd edition doesn’t have an SD slot) is to transfer the main map to my computer, then delete it from the TomTom (which produces a warning message that you need at least one map for it to function), then download the second map I want to use. When I’m done using that second map, I transfer it to the computer, erase it from the TomTom, and retrieve the original map from the computer using TomTom’s own management software. Bought the 3rd ed in Oct 2007. Went to Gr Canyon last yr and while driving thru Az screen went dark, but voice directions kept going.

So unit became useless for viewing or anything else. Got home, hooked up to my PC, and worked on Pc, as far as commands. Called Tom Tom, they said nothing they could do. Wouldnt even recommend a repair station. Ironically my son n law has same unit, and same thing happened to him. Anyway to inter change screen, or get repaired someplace?

Trying to stay with Tom Tom, but they are sure making it hard to do.
