Support staff Member since 2010 Unfortunately, the Cortex DMIX600 is a (discontinued) all-in-one stand-alone USB media player. It's not MIDI capable and not intended to be hooked up to a computer to control DJ software. It's for stand-alone media playback only without using a computer. The USB connector on the back is for plugging into a computer to allow you to use it as an iPod dock.

Nothing replaces vinyl but this mixer really makes you save your back. By going digital, you can have more than 50 milk crates of vinyl in an external hard-drive.

I carry 1- 500 GB to my gigs for now. One important thing you do need to know that Pro Sound Does not tell you, but if you go to cortex website, it states 'Not Compatible with MAC formatted iPods.' If it wasn't for a tech (Sam) at Cortex telling me that they are developing a free software for Mac formatted iPods, I would have sent this back and told PSSL to -, for not having a disclaimer and doing false advertisement. So for now I can't use my iPod dock, so I use the external. But I forgive them, I was the first to order it and the first to give them feedback about this.So go ahead and buy it. Save your back and trick your gig out.

I still travel with my Tech.' S but only with a selected few records, when I need certain effects or to show that vinyl ain't dead.I just hope they come out with one that has 4-channels, now that would be KRAZY. Was this review helpful?.

PRO Infinity Member since 2006 does this unit connect to a PC? Looks like it only reads external storage devices like usb sticks and external HDDs. 'Built around the same engine as the HDC-1000, the DMIX Series integrates the power of Cortex's patent-pending USB compatible technology and a 2-channel mixer into one compact, easy-to-carry, all-in-one digital mixing solution (only 12 lb.). Whether mixing at home, in the club, or at a party, the DMIX-600 delivers optimum functionality and control of your digital music files stored on an iPod, external hard drive, or USB flash drive that is perfect for portable setups, permanent installations and mobile DJ rigs.'

It's for stand-alone media playback only without using a computer. The USB connector on the back is for plugging into a computer to allow you to use it as an iPod dock. It also cannot be used with timecode because it lacks separate outputs for each of the decks to connect to a timecode sound card. Your best option would be to sell it on eBay and use the money to purchase a MIDI controller. A similar product that also offers USB media playback as well as full MIDI controller support would be the Numark MixDeck series. Make sure that the controller that you purchase comes with VirtualDJ LE included, otherwise you will not be able to use it with VirtualDJ unless you purchase the full VirtualDJ Professional: A selection of other popular MIDI controllers can be found on our hardware page:Posted Wed 05 Jun 13 @ 4:50 am.
